The “No job too small” section! We love them! The more awkward, the better. Little leaks, drips, strange noises coming from your plumbing system? Nu Age will investigate, find and fix any of your plumbing & heating issues in your home.
From taps, toilets, radiators and boilers. Our maintenance department carries an array of all sorts on the vans so we’ll most likely be able fix the issues there and then, not only making this time efficient, but keeping the costs to a minimum.
You can usually fix a leaking tap by replacing the washer or cartridge inside the tap. Turn off the water supply before starting the repair. Nu Age engineers carry an array of cartridges on the van so it should be simplistic for us to repair the tap.
You can try using a plunger, a drain snake, or a chemical drain cleaner to unblock a sink. If these methods don't work, Nu Age has specialist equipment for this. We would suggest avoid using chemicals if possible as this could corrode the washers and won’t fully remove the blockage.
To bleed a radiator, turn off your central heating system, use a radiator key to open the bleed valve on the radiator, and release any trapped air. Remember to have a container and towel handy to catch any water. Once you have bled the radiator, its really important to add more pressure back into the system. This is required if you have a pressurised heating system, combi boiler being the most common.
If you can, remove the lid off the siphon. Sometimes the siphons get stuck and can be adjusted with your hand. If the washer has perished, we may need to replace this. Nu Age carries spare toilet parts on the van for repairs like this.
Generally if a shower head is dripped, it means water is bypassing the cartridge. Usually we will need to replace the cartridge but sometimes these can be cleaned out. Make sure the water is isolated first before attempting this.
If you have a burst pipe, turn off the water supply at the mains, and then drain the system by turning on all your taps. If the burst pipe is on the heating system, find the nearest isolation valves. Nu Age have engineers around the midlands who can attend quickly to resolve this.
To replace a toilet flush mechanism, you'll need to remove the tank lid, disconnect the water supply, unscrew the old mechanism, and install the new one according to the manufacturer's instructions. Nu Age have engineers around the area with quick response times to attend to this.
If this is low water pressure on the water supply, you may have dirt in the cartridges, the stop tap may be partially closed or there may be an issue with the incoming supply. If the issue is on the heating system, you can refill your system pressure at the boiler or filling loop.
To thaw frozen pipes, you can use a hairdryer, heat lamp, or hot water from a boiled kettle, to gently warm the affected area. Never use an open flame or high-heat source, as this can damage the pipes and create a fire hazard.
To prevent plumbing emergencies, you should perform regular maintenance on your plumbing system, such as checking for leaks, insulating pipes in cold weather, and avoiding flushing anything other than toilet paper down the toilet.
